MOBILE HOME PARKS …
WHO’S NEXT, HOMELESS VETERANS????
———————————————–
Friends,
I just spoke to Phil Stewart, a concerned citizen living in a mobile home park here in Charlotte. He has many Latino neighbors at the mobile park and has witnessed a long-term pattern of intimidation and abuse from the managers towards the residents, including threats to call immigration, have them deported, and so on. He is basically leading a personal campaign against the company to try to hold them accountable for their actions.
1) Phil is trying to collect written information in Spanish regarding residents’ rights that he can post/distribute to his Latino neighbors. Does anyone have any resources that they can send him? He does not speak Spanish, so the information needs to be already translated.
2)He has already spoken with some police officers who have shown interest in holding a community meeting with the Latino residents in an effort to build trust and communication. Would anyone be able to help him organize a community meeting, or at the least just speak with him to give him some ideas or guidance (Ruben, or anyone in the ResourceCenter?)
3)Patricia, would you be interested (or anyone else at Mi Gente) in doing a story on what’s happening?
Phil has asked me to share his number with anyone who might be able to give him some information or help in this situation. His cell phone is 980-254-2664. You can also write to him at this email phillsr@gmail.com.
Thank you in advance for your part in making Charlotte a more just and equitable place to live!
